This is not just a physical process as it may cause your mood to swing, you can become more anxious and irritable/and or restless. The first step to effectively handling anxiety is recognizing when it occurs.

Identifying the Triggers

It is necessary to identify what triggers nervous tension. Work-related stress, money worries and concerns about relationships or health are common triggers. You can mitigate the effects of your nervousness by identifying what specifically is causing you to feel this way.

By journaling about how you feel and react in different scenarios, you can trace these patterns to their source — your triggers.

This means carving out some time every day to chill and let go of stressors. Try to get some relaxation into your routine because consistency is so important if you do not keep a relaxed lifestyle, then all the built-up tenseness will start interfering with different parts of life.

Nervous Tension
  • Get Adequate Sleep: While we sleep the body produces a lot of stress-fighting hormones which can contribute to balancing out anxiety. Make sure to get 7-9 hours of good rest each night; your body and mind need that time down as well.

Implement a routine that helps you wind down, like turning off screens an hour before bed, or reading a book with some light stretches. If sleep is a problem, someone should seek the help of a healthcare provider.

  • Connect with Others: Social support is invaluable for dealing with nervousness. Sharing your stressors with a friend, family member or therapist can offer you emotional relief and perspective.

If your anxiety becomes unmanageable, do not hesitate to see a therapist. Therapists give you individualized coping skills based on your unique concerns, which may be able to help you cope with stress more efficiently.

  • Set Realistic Goals: Setting unrealistic expectations or striving to get something perfect can be another source of nervous tension. Focus on goals you can realistically achieve both personally and professionally.

Think of tasks in smaller portions and chalk up small wins. Setting realistic goals puts less pressure on you and can help relieve nervousness.

  • Limit Exposure to Stressful Situations: Although it is not possible to eliminate all sources of stress from your life, you can limit the amount that potentially stresses you out.

This can look like establishing healthy boundaries at work, spending less time around negative people or media outlets and taking steps to reduce your exposure to distressing news. Do what it takes to be okay, even when doing so means making decisions that favor your mental and emotional state.

  • Practice Gratitude: Expressing your gratitude for the small things within life, can help you mentally shift to a relaxed state and mitigate stress. Expressing gratitude means giving thanks for the positive things you have, even if they are small.

Think about starting a Gratitude Journal, this can be when you take out time at the end of each day to write down 3 things that you are thankful for. Which helps you to keep a positive note and avoid stress.

  • Learn Stress-Management Techniques: In order to deal better with nervous tension and other kinds of stress, you can learn some stress-management techniques.

Progressive muscle relaxation, visualization or biofeedback methods are a way to control how your body responds during periods of high stress. You can learn them from books, online or with the help of a therapist.
